Home Buyers Class

Purchasing a home is exciting. However, that doesn't mean that all the events leading up to it will be. Today we had to wake up before the sun, in order to drive an hour to attend a Home Buyers Class. This is one of those "hoops" that we had to jump through to meet the terms of our loan, but it definitely wasn't something that we were looking forward to.

When the alarm went off at 5:30 this morning, I definitely thought about hitting snooze. Not a bone in my body wanted to wake up and make that hour drive. But, I want this house. So, I begrudgingly woke up, got out of bed, straightened my hair, put my makeup on, and then started the next dreaded task of waking up the sleeping bear that was lying next to me.

Now, you need to understand that I have often been made responsible for waking up my husband. It is not a task that I enjoy. I would much rather let him sleep. And most days, because I go to work before him, I don't have to do this. But alas, this morning I had no choice.

So off we go to our home buyer's class. We made it there right on time, after driving an hour to get there. I won't lie and say the class was an extreme waste of time... but both my husband and I did know 99% of the information he shared and well, let's just say when he needed an answer he stared both of us down. It was kinda amusing. But I tried not answering everything, since I wanted to give others a chance to get involved.

One of the most beneficial parts of the class was when the Inspector came. If your going to buy a house, remember to always take a quarter and a flashlight with you. The flashlight is to obviously look in those darker places (like under the house, in the attic, etc.) and the quarter is to gage the size of any cracks in the wall. If you can slide the quarter into a crack, as if it was a slot machine, you have a problem.

There were a few other things we learned, but I won't bore you with the details.  Let's just say, that I was really happy when 3:30 came around, we were handed our certificate, and able to leave.

My advice: if you're buying a house for the first time, look up the times and classes for your nearest Home Buyers Class and schedule yourself a class. Yea, it's 8 hours. Yea, you'll be glad when it's over. But most importantly, you will be glad you went.

We have less than a month until we close on our house. To put it simply, I can not wait!

For this house I have prayed

For the past couple of months.... years.... I have been praying that God would lead my husband and I to the perfect house.

A couple of weeks ago we put an offer in on this beautiful house. It is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for us in every way! When I walked in, I could see us raising a child in the house and even playing with our grandchildren one day. I envisioned the house-warming party that we would be throwing for all of our friends and family, as well as the many Thanksgivings, Christmases, and various other parties that we would host.

After a night of very little sleep - and LOTS of praying - we found out that our offer was accepted! Both my husband and myself were completely and utterly ecstatic! If everything goes as planned we will be moving out of our 3-bedroom rental at the beginning of August and Makin' Home at our new, first home!

I can not wait to make this house our home! Thankfully, it isn't a "fixer-upper." However, I know there are tons of DIY projects that I can't wait to get started on! While I wait, I will simply visit my favorite idea site - Pinterest - to gather as many great ideas as I can use!
